African Nations championship (CHAN) officially kicked off in Tanzania as of 2 Aug 2025.Ina 60,000 seater Benjamin Mkapa  stadium in Dar es salaam, It was really a historic night for Tanzanians co-hosting the continental tournament alongside Kenya and Ugada.The mood was electric as supporters from across the region gathered to witness the start of one of the continents most anticipated football tournaments. Football fans thronged the stadium filling the air with excitement, flutter of national flags &  songs  from Bongo flavor that electrified the crowd 

       In the first continental Edition co-hosted by Three countries jointly welcoming the teams across the continent with the tournament running till August 30th. 

Since it's start in 2009 Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Morocco have lifted the trophy twice. DRC won 2009 & 2016 while Morocco claimed victory in 2018 and 2020.Tunisia,Libya raining championship, Senegal each hold a single title . 

                                        

The Opening match pitted the Taifa stars of Tanzania against Burkina Faso in a thrilling curtain -raiser. After every goal of a match that  ended Tanzania 2 B.Faso 0.Fans in Tanzanian colors, draped in scarves and jerseys rallied behind their team with hopes of a victorious start on home soil. 

The first goals were from Abdul Suleiman and Mohamed Hussein extending their lead in Group B. 

ALL SET IN KENYA FOR AFRICAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

The wait is finally over  as Nairobi host's a high level football spectacle on 3rd of August 2025. In anticipation of massive matches attendances,the ministry of interior has lay down proper strategies to enhance the safety of football lover's and the players on the pitch.The plan aim us ensuring safety, order and fan confidence throughout the month-long tournament. 

Security personnel have been trained to detect counterfelt confirmations and tickets scanners will be deployed at all Main access points.Digital ticketing removes the risk of middlemen and ensures that only genuine fans gain access points.Each venue is linked to a nearby hospital with a rapid evacuation plan in place 

Officials say this system will also act as a dry run for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which Kenya is set to co host

Additionally Geoffrey Ruku has urged all public servants in Kenya to wear Harambee Stars Jersey in the workplace as a official dress code.

 CROWD MANAGEMENT IN KENYA 

In anticipation of potential disruptions - including political protests, pitch invasions or Acts of hooliganism - the state has also activated a full counter-terror and public Safety protocol.

This include enhanced surveillance with facial recognition,joint patrols by police and intelligence officers and rapid response unit's stationed on -site during matches ,a special CHAN 2024 security hotline has been launched to allow fans to report suspicious behavior in real time"This is a high profile, globally watched event We're taking possible measure to ensure it proceeds without incident,"Omollo added.

With risk of medical emergencies in crowded venues,the government has also stationed trained first responders, ambulances and emergency medical tents at both stadiums.In terms of transportation the ministry of sports has partnered with the Nairobi city county Government to provide shuttle buses for fans attending matches.No private vehicles will be allowed bear the stadiums and fans are advised to prepare to walk a short distance to access the venues.

Additionally a comprehensive list of banned items has been published by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and local Organizing Committee (LOC) fans caught with prohibited items risk being barred from entery and could face legal actions. 

            

             

A DOUBLE WIN TO HARAMBEE STARS

Meanwhile, President William Ruto had dangled cash prizes to motivate the home team to perform well in the tournament.

He  pledged financial rewards for each milestone reached during the Harambee Stars tour tournament journey.If the team secures a spot in the quarterfinals, they'll receive KSH 60 million.

Advancing to the semifinals will earn them KSH 70 million,while reaching the finals will extract a prize of Ksh 90 million.

"I want us to make a deal.For every game you win,every player gets KSH 1 million.For every game you draw, every player gets KSH 500,000.We had agreed that the team would gets KSH 200 million for making it to the finals.But I make it KSH 600 000 million if you make it to the finals.I have multiplied everything for everyone to play their part,"the president said.

Harambee Stars struggled a win of 1-0  every player managing to secure at least 1 million.

The vibrant Nganya industry in Nairobi is in mourning following the sudden death of a popular tout known as MAVELLA/kelvin. His passing reportedly due to road accident near umoja stage, occurred on Friday July 18 2025 the very same day a new and highly anticipated matatu named "MOOD" was officially launched. 

   The tragic timing has sparked considerable discussion across social media platforms.

MAVELLA was well known figure within Nairobi's bustling public transport sector.Particularly associated with matatus renowned for their elaborate art and sound systems, such as "Opposite" -a matatu with theme colours resembling the Canadian flag. 

                            

Kelvin whom was popularly known as Mavella, Canadian Flag Bear,and Canadian boy due to his association with the Opposite matatu.

Opposite matatu "KENYA ONE" won the title in 2022 and 2023 according to matatu Matwana Culture.The matatu is known for plying the umoja route under the Umoinner Sacco.The "Kenya one" award is given to the best 33-seater public service vehicle (PSV) in the country.

SHA FAILS A HOUSE HELP [MILLICENT AKINYI]💔💔💔💔💔💔

PAY CASH OR WAIT FOR TUMOUR TO GROW

Ms Akinyi who works as a house help, had been diagnosed with hypochondriac lipoma-a benign tumour made of fat cells.

    When Millicent was wheeled into Naivasha Sub-county Referral  Hospital for surgery to remove a tumour ,her employer and her had expected a smooth process, for she had already paid her full annual Social Health Authority's premium believing it would cover the medical emergency "lkn wapi" .😭👇

After filling out the surgical services pre-authorization form and submitting it to SHA offices located at the hospital, her employer received news that would expose a troubling gap in Kenya's Healthcare coverage system. 

                              

The SHA office told Ms Akinyi employer  that the  tumour had not yet reached Threshold to be covered. For it to be covered it must measure 3 by 3 cm, Millicent tumour measured 2 by 2 cm. 
Ms Akinyi whose  income depends on her physical ability to work, waiting was not an option.The tumour was causing pain and interfering with Daily activities.

Millicent experiences reflects wider problem with SHA implementation where rigid rules are creating barriers to necessary care for Low-income Kenyans.

As Ms Akinyi is recovering  from her surgery paid for By  her employer's pocket rather than the insurance system designed to protect her.

 The funeral mass gets underway at S.T Peter's Square,Rome. The Hundreds of leader's , thousands of Catholic christians and the citizens of Vatican are gathered together to pay there final tribute.
